Arsenal are ready to improve their bid for Viktor Gyokeres.

Mikel Arteta is desperate to add a new striker to his squad and it appeared that Benjamin Sesko was the top target amid lengthy talks with RB Leipzig over the Slovenian international.

However, it could now be that Gyokeres is back in the lead, with reports from Portugal this week that they met with the prolific Swede’s agent amid all the latest drama over his future at Sporting and saw an opening bid turned down.

According to Mais Futebol, per Sport Witness, Arsenal are preparing an improved second offer for Gyokeres’ services worth more than an initial €55m (£46.7m) up front and reaching over €70m (£59.5m) including bonuses, with Sporting said to be open to more negotiations.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are believed to only be willing to pay €60m+€10m, with issues also apparently arising on the player side.

Hasan Cetinkaya, the player’s agent, has claimed that there is written proof that there was an agreement between Gyokeres and Sporting that the striker could leave the club should an offer of €60million plus €10million be received.
