"I Don't Think She's Delusional": Aisha Tyler Explains the Jaw-Dropping Twist in 'Criminal Minds: Evolution' Season 3, Episode 8

Criminal Minds star Aisha Tyler breaks down the surprise ending of Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3, episode 8 , and how it impacts her character. After a breathless and climactic episode, which saw Tara shot twice in the abdomen as the BAU sought to take down Disciple and stop Sicarius, Tara recovered and proposed to her partner, the DOJ's Rebecca Wilson.

It was an ending with much-needed hope and joy amid a season (and show) that has gotten very dark, very quickly. And, while Tara still has some recovering to do, the emotionally charged and optimistic ending leaves a lot to be excited about for the two characters. It also shows that even in times of darkness, love can still endure.

In an interview with TV Insider , Tyler discussed Tara's decision, and how she had to overcome the fear of letting someone in with the dangerous life she leads. She confirmed that Tara is not delusional about the dangers of her career, and what this can mean for long-term relationships for both women.

Tyler reiterated that Tara understands how difficult her life is, and how it's not always conducive to developing strong connections with other people. She mentions how profilers often require personal sacrifice, and how Tara is not delusional about that. Check out Tyler's comments below:

TV Insider: And then we got the proposal, which was a nice moment of joy amidst a pretty dark season so far. So when did proposing to Rebecca first pop up in Tara’s mind as something she wanted, even if she was scared to want it?

Aisha Tyler: I mean, I think that Tara understands how difficult the life she’s chosen for herself is. I don’t think she’s delusional about that.

I think some people, and we’ve seen those kinds of characters come through this world, and we know them in the real world, who pick a life that is difficult and expect that they can do it all exactly the way that they would like.

And I just think that’s not life for any of us. And I think we know how difficult this job is because it exists in the real world. There are real profilers that really do this work, and it requires incredible personal sacrifice. Tara is not delusional about that.

Tara knows exactly the life that she’s chosen for herself. It’s something that means a lot to her. She believes in the work. And so I think there was a part of her that was frightened, and I think there was a part of her that was protective.

What This Means For Tara & Rebecca's Future

Tara's Role At BAU Could Become A Long-Term Issue

Tara's bisexuality has seen her explore numerous relationships in the past, but there has always been a fear associated with what she does. While it is wonderful that, as two of the best Criminal Minds characters , she and Rebecca have been able to build a deep connection, Tara's job is still highly dangerous.

The fact that she made the decision to propose after being shot - something which could potentially have been fatal - shows that the event has caused Tara to consider her priorities. However, there is no guarantee that something similar will not happen again in the future if she stays at BAU.

Tyler's comments show that Tara understands the risks involved, and understands that her job is not always the best for developing external connections. It could well be that Tara makes the decision to quit or take a reduced role, limiting the risk of harm to herself and, potentially, to Rebecca.

Our Take On Tara & Rebecca's Criminal Minds Future

There Could Be Friction If Tara Continues With Her Dangerous Career

While the proposal shows Tara's hope of a better and more peaceful life for the two, her role at BAU still puts both women in danger. There will be a hope that everything works out, and that the two can get married and have a great future together, but there is also an underlying threat, as well.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Rebecca issue Tara with an ultimatum following the proposal, especially in light of her shooting. This could cause a range of problems, and may result in friction between the two, and it will be interesting to see if this is a plot point carried over to Criminal Minds: Evolution season 4 .
