Don't Miss 'Dexter' on Netflix: Stream Before It Goes Offline Next Week!

Dexter began as a single show on Showtime, airing for eight seasons from 2006 through 2013. On June 19, 2024, the crime drama series started streaming on Netflix and attracted a new audience. In fact, the series became so popular that it was given a second life.
That second life led to a third and fourth, as Dexter has now grown into a full franchise . A limited series sequel debuted in 2021, a prequel in 2024, there’s an upcoming second sequel series, and a spin-off series based on one of the show’s most exciting and terrifying villains is in the works. So, you’ll want to catch up on the original before sinking your teeth into everything else that’s out now and coming soon. But you’ll have to watch Dexter soon, because it’s leaving Netflix this month.
When Is 'Dexter' Leaving Netflix?
Dexter, the story of a vigilante serial killer who operates on a strict code devised by his now-deceased father, is scheduled to be removed from Netflix exactly one year after it premiered on the streamer, on June 19, 2025 . This means the last day you’ll be able to watch the 96 episodes over eight seasons is June 18, 2025.
The series was previously available on Netflix in 2020, garnering more than 1.01 billion hours of viewing time from 94.8 million views. The current licensing reportedly ends on March 31, 2026, so it’s possible Netflix could renew the show before it’s gone . But as of now, there has been no renewal announcement between Netflix and Paramount, which owns the streaming rights to the show. So, you only have a few days left to binge every riveting episode in every season of Dexter. Watch him face new cases, heinous killers, and victims, all while hoping no one discovers his real identity behind the mask of an unassuming, friendly blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro police department.
Keep in mind that the show isn’t scheduled to leave Netflix in other countries and regions where it’s also available, including the U.K. and Canada. At least not yet. Since Paramount owns the rights and offers other shows in the Dexter universe, it may migrate to Paramount+ in the U.S. However, there is no confirmed new home just yet. Once you finish watching Dexter , check out the limited series sequel Dexter: New Blood , which debuted in 2021. The limited series, which takes place 10 years after the abysmal series finale , saw the original showrunner return and Michael C. Hall reprise his role as the title character.
From there, Dexter: Original Sin is a 2024 prequel series starring Patrick Gibson as a younger version of the titular protagonist, along with other actors playing younger versions of characters from the original, and Christian Slater taking on the role of his father, Harry Morgan (played by James Remar in the original). The story ties in beautifully with Dexter , featuring plenty of callbacks and faithfully depicting moments from flashbacks, along with some exciting new twists. The streamer has already renewed the series for a second season .
Another reason you’ll want to binge-watch Dexter before it’s gone is that on July 11, 2025, another sequel series is coming called Dexter: Resurrection , which continues 10 weeks after the events in Dexter: New Blood . Fans are excited for this story as Dexter escapes to New York to follow his teenage son, Harrison (Jack Alcott). While there, he meets interesting new characters while also coming face-to-face with old friends and foes, including David Zayas, who reprises his role as Detective Angel Batista.
The lore will continue not only with multiple seasons planned for Dexter: Resurrection , but also a spin-off prequel called Trinity Killer . While there aren’t many details yet about this series, it will be based on the Season 4 villain of the same name, played brilliantly by John Lithgow. Bottom line: if you loved Dexter and want to freshen up on the stories before the new series, if you’re intrigued but haven’t watched it yet, or if you started watching but haven’t yet powered all the way through, get cracking. Just like any bad guy who gets on Dexter’s radar has their days numbered, the show has limited time left on Netflix. Stream Dexter on Netflix , Dexter: New Blood on Paramount+ , and Dexter: Original Sin on Paramount+ .
