Don't Hold Your Breath for This Beloved MCU Character's Avengers Debut

Back when the Marvel Cinematic Universe was still in its early days, it was pretty common to see every hero appear on a staggering number of projects throughout the years. Captain America stole the spotlight in seven live-action films, Thor surpassed that record by one, and, of course, Iron Man has the crown for his jaw-dropping nine MCU movie appearances.

To say those numbers are shocking would be an understatement, and that's without counting any cameo appearances (which all three heroes have no shortage of). However, the superhero giant has followed a different strategy in different years, as big characters have been introduced in one specific project only to never be seen again.

The Eternals, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Namor, Werewolf, Man-Thing, and even Death itself made waves when they first made their MCU debut. Fans thought we'd get to see more of them in the near future, yet that day still has to come. Fortunately, not everything's grim as two big crossover projects are on the horizon, and they are set to bring many heroes together to face Doom and his forces. Out of the one-and-done group, only Namor is confirmed to be coming back at the time being (and She-Hulk as well, if we take into account that leaked Marvel concept art ). But the bright side is that anyone could show up when we least expect them... with a few exceptions, that is.

Moon Knight will reportedly skip Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars

Being a Moon Knight fan has definitely been one huge rollercoaster of emotions. Some dislike the character's Disney Plus series for how much it differed from the source material, others consider it one of the best MCU projects of Phase 4, and we all hate how it's been over three years since we last saw Marc Spector. Furthermore, it was previously rumored that the character wouldn't appear in the upcoming crossover, only for another report to claim the opposite, and now we're back at square one all over again.

Renowned superhero insider, Alex Perez , has stated that Moon Knight won't even be mentioned in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars . While it seems like a strange decision at first—especially considering how long it's been since we last saw him—it all makes sense when looking at the other characters that will skip those movies too, which are reported to be Werewolf, Elsa Bloodstone, and Man-Thing. They all fall under the "supernatural" side of the MCU, which, unfortunately, doesn't really blend well with the ongoing Multiverse storyline.

For a time, it seemed like the MCU started to green-light projects just for the sake of it, without a bigger plan in store. That's why we've seen fewer follow-ups in recent years. However, the superhero giant is looking to rectify that mistake moving forward as they lower the output of releases and instead focus on creating a better overarching story. As such, it wasn't surprising to learn that the "supernatural" heroes will be given the spotlight until after the release of Avengers: Secret Wars and the end of the Multiverse Saga as a whole.

With a Midnight Sons movie reportedly in development , it's just a matter of time before Moon Knight suits up and joins the action once again. However, that won't reportedly happen until 2028 at the earliest, which will be six years after his MCU debut. So, even if Marvel is making the right move at this point by waiting out some storylines, it just goes to show that one poorly planned Phase can radically harm the overarching superhero narrative that had been meticulously crafted for decades.

To make matters worse, it's also been reported that Daredevil and the rest of The Defenders won't appear in the upcoming Avengers movies either. So it's best that we keep our expectations in check and don't assume that absolutely every single hero in existence will be there. Otherwise, we might leave movie theaters disappointed rather than pleasantly surprised.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on December 18, 2026.
