Craft Your Skin: Homemade Tallow Lotion Bars
These tallow lotion bars melt right into the skin, offering lasting moisture without any toxic chemicals.
Tallow is rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, and its composition closely mimics our skin’s natural oils, making it one of the most effective moisturizers.
Blended with herbal infused oil and beeswax, these bars are ultra-nourishing and SO simple to make.
If you’re looking for a deeply moisturizing, natural solution for dry skin, tallow lotion bars are a must-have in your herbal skincare routine.
I love tallow and make everything from tallow candles to tallow lip balm, tallow face cream , and everywhere in between. I use it daily and all over my body.
I have made lotion bars in the past, so I knew I had to give it a try with my favorite tallow. And, it worked like a charm! So I wanted to share my recipe with you if you love lotion bars and tallow, this is right for you.

Why Use Tallow in Skincare?
Tallow has actually been used in skincare for a long time! Way before it became a “trend.” Here’s why I love using it:
- Deeply Moisturizing : Tallow penetrates deeply into the skin to nourish and hydrate, not just coat the surface. I truly feel a difference in my skin when using tallow versus shea butter or another product.
- Rich in Nutrients : It contains fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, which are essential for healthy skin.
- Gentle and Skin-Compatible : Because tallow closely resembles our skin’s natural oils, it’s ideal for even the most sensitive skin types. Everyone in my family loves it!

How to Make Tallow Lotion Bars
Here is my recipe for these easy DIY tallow lotion bars:
Ingredients for Tallow Lotion Bars
- ½ cup grass-fed tallow
- ½ cup herb infused oil (like lavender, chamomile , or calendula )
- ½ cup beeswax
- 1 tsp vitamin E oil (optional)
- 20–30 drops essential oils ( your choice, lavender , frankincense , or chamomile are all wonderful choices)
- Silicone mold

Instructions
Use a double boiler to gently melt the tallow and beeswax together. Stir occasionally until fully liquefied.

Remove from heat and stir in the herb infused oil, vitamin E oil, and essential oils. Mix well to combine.

Carefully pour the mixture into silicone molds (I love using floral or heart-shaped molds for gifting!).
Place the molds in the fridge or freezer for about an hour, or until completely solid.

Pop the lotion bars out of the molds and store them in an airtight container in a cool place. Avoid leaving them in direct sunlight as they will soften or melt.

How to Use Tallow Lotion Bars
Simply warm the bar between your hands and glide it over dry skin areas: elbows, hands, feet, or anywhere that needs a little love. The warmth of your skin will melt the bar just enough to apply a perfect amount.
I like to keep these in little 1 ounce tins to help preserve them and they fit in perfectly.
