Chicago Weekend Violence: 3 Dead, 12 Injured in Shooting Spree, Police Report
At least three people were killed and 12 others were wounded in weekend shootings across Chicago.
The ages of the victims range from 15 to 57.
Shootings from Friday
In the first shooting of the weekend, a 42-year-old man was shot while inside a vehicle in the 4700 block of South Laporte Avenue around 9:40 p.m.
Police said the victim heard shots and felt pain. He was hit in the upper right thigh and groin. He was taken to Christ Hospital in fair condition.
The victim was not able to provide any updates about the shooting.
Two other men were shot and killed while also sitting inside a vehicle in the 100 block of North Laramie Avenue around 11:41 p.m.
The victims, a 38-year-old man and another between 30-50 years old, were inside an SUV when someone approached, pulled out a handgun, and shot both men in the head.
Both were taken to Stroger Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Shootings from Saturday
- At 1:22 a.m. in the 11000 block of South State Street, the victim, a 42-year-old man, was walking outside when he heard an argument from inside a vehicle in traffic, followed by gunshots. The victim suffered a graze wound to the left elbow and refused medical attention. The vehicle fled the scene, and no other injuries were reported.
- At 2:24 a.m. in the 2500 block of East 130th Street, a 41-year-old woman was in a vehicle when she was involved in an argument that turned into a fight with a known man. During this, the man pulled out a gun and fired shots at her. She suffered a gunshot wound to the left shoulder and was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in fair condition. Responding officers arrested the man.
- At 3:03 p.m. in the 400 block of West 62nd Street, a 27-year-old woman was on the front porch of a residence when she suffered a graze wound to the left hand by an unknown person. She was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition.
- At 9:46 p.m. in the 9100 block of South Wabash Avenue, the victim, an 18-year-old man, was outside when he was approached by an unknown person, who pulled out a gun and fired shots in the victim's direction. The victim was hit multiple times in the body and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition. The offender fled the scene on foot.
- At 9:45 p.m. in the 5800 block of West Cornelia Avenue, the victim, a 57-year-old man, saw an unknown man trying to enter the victim's vehicle. The victim approached the would-be thief, who pulled out a gun and fired shots at the victim. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the left leg. He was taken to Loyola Hospital in fair condition.
- At 10 p.m. in the 1100 block of North California Avenue, three men were outside in a group when they were approached by an unknown person in a vehicle who fired shots at the victims from inside and fled the scene. A 27-year-old was hit in the left and right legs and was in fair condition at Stroger Hospital. A 42-year-old was hit in the left calf, and a 45-year-old was hit in the right leg. Both were in fair condition at Humboldt Park Hospital.
Shootings from Sunday
- At 2:02 a.m. in the 4000 block of West Cortland Street, the victim, a 34-year-old man, was outside when he was approached by an unknown person inside a dark SUV, who pulled out a gun and fired shots from inside the SUV and fled the scene. The victim was hit in the right arm and grazed in the chest. The victim self-transported to St. Mary's Hospital in good condition.
- At 2:09 a.m. in the 9000 block of South Escanaba, officers responded to a call of a walk-in gunshot victim at Trinity Hospital. The victim, a 23-year-old man, suffered gunshot wounds to the neck and lip. The victim was dropped off at Trinity Hospital in critical condition.
- At 4:03 a.m. in the 7600 block of South Prairie Avenue, a 17-year-old boy was standing near the sidewalk when he was approached by an unknown dark-colored sedan, and someone from inside fired shots at the victim before fleeing westbound on 76th Street. The victim was hit in the shoulder and was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
- At 3:30 p.m., a 15-year-old boy was in an alley behind the 2600 block of West Evergreen Avenue in West Town when he was shot in the right leg. He was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in critical condition.
