( The Hill President Donald Trump stated his desire to change the federal holiday of Veterans Day to "Victory Day for World War I" and introduce an additional holiday to honor World War II. He emphasized that the U.S. needs to "restarted celebrating our victories."

" numerous allies and friends are marking May 8th as Victory Day, yet we outdid every other nation by a significant margin in achieving victory in World War II. Therefore, I'm designating May 8th as Victory Day for World War II and November 11th as Victory Day for World War I," stated Trump. on Truth Social late on Thursday.

He stated, "We emerged victorious in both wars; no one came near us when it comes to power, courage, or strategic excellence, yet we never commemorate these achievements—That's because our leaders today lack the ability to do so! We will begin honoring our triumphs once more!"

Veterans Day, which falls on November 11 each year and is recognized at a national level, initially marked the conclusion of World War I. However, this day now pays tribute to all who have served in the armed forces.

The president didn’t indicate whether he’d support making May 8 an official federal holiday when he urged for redesignating it as a day to commemorate the triumph of World War II.

Federal holidays come about via congressional legislation. In 2021, Congress approved the establishment of Juneteenth as a federal holiday, which was then signed into law by former President Joe Biden.
