Traffic resumes on westbound I-80 in Truckee following big rig crash, CHP says

Westbound Interstate 80 in the Sierra has resumed traffic after reopening, according to the California Highway Patrol, following a large truck accident near Kingvale.

An image posted by the CHP approximately at 5:20 p.m. revealed a semi-truck folded up like an accordion, obstructing every lane heading west on I-80.

Authorities stated that the large truck was the sole vehicle implicated in the accident. Reports indicated that only slight injuries occurred.

Apart from the large truck accident, Caltrans reported several vehicle collisions around Donner Summit that obstructed westbound I-80 during Monday afternoon and evening.

Shortly before 9 p.m., Caltrans announced that the interstate was back open; however, they warned motorists that the remaining traffic jam might lead to significant holdups.

Snowfall in the Sierra on Monday has set up slippery conditions for travel.

By 9:15 PM, restrictions on I-80 had been removed for motorists heading in both directions.
