Three Yankees Prospects Poised for a Big Break

The New York Yankees can feel accomplished this season, excelling not only at the major league level but also with their minor league teams.

Even though there aren’t many top-100 prospects (just one included) to MLB Pipeline After Jasson Dominguez dropped from his prospect status, New York’s farm system boasts several standout players who deserve attention.

Included among them are Cam Schlittler, George Lombard Jr., Bryce Cunningham, and Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz. However, there are several others who are prepared to move up from Triple-A to the major league teams.

Given this, let's take a look at three prospects who deserve a call-up.

Outfielder Everson Pereira

Pereira An outfielder, ranked as the Yankees' No. 12 prospect, is renowned primarily for his exceptional power-hitting ability. Besides this strength, he showcases comprehensive skills at bat, sometimes achieving average hits above .300 along with significant home runs. Throughout the current season, he tops the charts among teammates with eight home runs and maintains a robust slash line of .289/.381/.567. Additionally, his swiftness gives him an edge on the base paths; last year alone, he successfully stole 21 bases.

In 2023, Pereira made his debut with the Yankees but was sent down due to subpar play. He missed much of the previous season because of an elbow injury, which led to a noticeable decline in his overall statistics. Despite this, Pereira has the potential to make a significant contribution to the team. However, he will have to bide his time since both the outfield and designated hitter positions are crowded with top-tier choices, particularly now that Giancarlo Stanton is back.

Pitcher Eric Reyzelman

Relief pitcher Righty Reyzelman stands as the Yankees' 21st ranked prospect. Over the past season, he swiftly climbed the ladder within the Yankees’ minor league system. Starting from rookie-level games, he made his way up to Double-A with remarkable progress, recording a stellar 1.16 ERA and holding opponents to a batting average of .136, all while striking out 63 batters in only 38.2 innings pitched.

During this season at Triple-A, Reyzelman has maintained a 2.45 ERA with opponents averaging just .163 and has recorded 17 strikeouts over 14.2 innings pitched. When the rest of the injured pitchers for the Yankees return from the IL, their bullpen will become quite crowded. However, it wouldn’t be unexpected if the 23-year-old right-hander makes his Major League Baseball debut before the year ends.

First baseman T.J. Rumfield

Rumfield isn’t in the Yankees’ top 30 prospects, However, starting from last season, he has matched the performance of the top prospects in the Yankees' farm system. The first baseman ended the 2024 campaign with a batting average of .294, an on-base percentage of .370, and a slugging percentage of .454, along with 15 home runs in 449 at-bats spanning both Double-A and Triple-A levels.

This season, the player who is 24 years old is surpassing expectations. Rumfield is batting .305/.404/.534 with six home runs in 115 at-bats.

Similar to Pereira, Rumfield lacks a position on the infield. His skills are evident, yet with Paul Goldschmidt anchoring first base and Ben Rice emerging as a possible replacement, there seems to be little chance of Rumfield making his debut with the Yankees shortly. Should the Yankees not secure another first baseman during the upcoming free agent period, he might serve as a reserve option next season. We could potentially witness him playing professionally elsewhere this year rather than sticking around New York.
