Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright Are Teamming Up for a New Comedy, But Don't Call It a 'Shaun of the Dead' Sequel

Simon Pegg is squashing all hopes for a "Shaun of theDead" sequel despite its 20th anniversary Pegg, who worked alongside writer/director Edgar Wright on the "Cornetto Trilogy" consisting of "Shaun of the Dead," "Hot Fuzz," and "The World’s End," mentioned Variety He plans to collaborate with Wright again for a new comedy project - though this time outside the universe of "Shaun of the Dead."

It’s wonderful to receive such an invitation, and the success this movie enjoys represents the pinnacle of achievement for any director. However, 'Shaun' tells a complete tale from start to finish, much like how adding another chapter would differ from what ‘Alien 3’ attempted with respect to ‘Aliens.’ could ultimately take away from the initial Pegg mentioned, 'Definitely, when Edgar and I create our upcoming movie, we will let everyone down.'

In "Shaun of the Dead," Pegg portrayed one of the few individuals who survived a zombie outbreak. In this 2005 independent horror-comedy film, Bill Nighy and Pegg’s regular collaborator Nick Frost were also featured. Pegg informed his audience that collaborations with both Frost and Wright would happen sooner rather than later, stating confidently, “The only thing left to determine is timing, not whether these projects come together.”

Wright and Pegg recently had been attempting to establish a fundamental concept for a new project within the comedy genre. Pegg further mentioned that he assured Wright he wouldn’t undertake another comedy until they collaborate again. As reported earlier by Pegg, The Guardian In 2023, regardless of which project Wright and he choose to undertake next, they plan to have no connection to their previous movies. As Pegg stated back then, "We won’t be depending on our prior works." I enjoy the notion of upsetting some individuals. ."

"Shaun of the Dead" propelled Wright’s directorial journey forward, earning praise from acclaimed directors like Quentin Tarantino and John Carpenter.

“I recall showing up for the 'Shaun of the Dead' premiere at the ArcLight on Sunset,” Pegg mentioned to Variety as he promotes “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.” He continued, “Edgar was sitting there alongside Quentin Tarantino, surrounded by many impressive individuals. We received tremendous backing from Quentin along with George Romero, John Carpenter, Stephen King, and Peter Jackson—all these legends supported us. I believe this happened because they recognized aspects of their own work reflected in Edgar’s film.”

Pegg is eager to go back to indie projects similar to "Shaun of the Dead." He stated, "In the early part of my career, I focused on many of the things I adored from childhood. However, since becoming a parent, these aren’t priorities for me anymore.” After appearing in big franchise movies such as "Star Trek,” he added, “They simply don’t appeal to me now.”

In the interim, Wright is reconsidering Stephen King's "The Running Man" Glen Powell takes the starring role. It appears all paths connect back to Pegg as the "peg" linking the collaborators: Mission: Impossible star Tom Cruise, who has worked with Pegg before, also features prominently. famously Powell's mentor following their collaboration on "Top Gun: Maverick."
