Secretary of State Michael Watson Speaks on Upcoming Municipal Elections

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - In a matter of weeks, residents throughout Mississippi will head to the polling stations for the municipal elections.

The secretary of state of Mississippi expressed his hope for a high voter turnout in those elections.

Michael Watson stated that municipal elections have the potential to affect voters' lives more swiftly compared to any other voting day at the polls.

He said voters should step up and take part in the elections coming up in June.

“We’ve seen some lower numbers in these municipal elections and obviously, any time I see a low turnout, it bothers me,” Watson said. “But, to understand the importance of these elections is critical, and, so, I hope folks will take the time to research the candidates, understand the issues that are important to them.

The people who agree with those priorities are the ones you should go support.

The statewide election in Mississippi is scheduled for June 3rd.

On Wednesday, Watson was the featured speaker at William Carey University for the institution’s yearly Small Business Leadership Award Luncheon.
