Robert De Niro Criticizes Trump's Film Tariffs at Cannes Film Festival
Robert De Niro hit the Cannes red carpet during a seldom public appearance alongside their partner Tiffany Chen , and during the event at the yearly movie festival, he took the opportunity to speak out President Donald Trump .

During his Cannes acceptance speech, De Niro took Trump to task for his proposed film tariff , referring to the president as a " philistine. " Earlier, Trump had declared in a A social media update posted on May 4th He instructed the U.S. Department of Commerce and the United States Trade Representative to initiate a process for imposing a 100% tariff on all imported movies.
Trump “has reduced funds and support for the arts, humanities, and education. Now he’s imposed a 100% tariff on films made outside the U.S.,” De Niro stated. “While creativity may be priceless, apparently tariffs can still be applied to it.”
The Academy Award-winning actor, aged 81, additionally urged everyone concerned with freedom to demonstrate against Trump.
It wasn't clear whether Trump's suggested tariffs would affect movies available on streaming platforms as much as those screened in cinemas, or if these taxes would be determined according to production expenses or ticket sales.
