ROAD BLOCKED: Southport Flooding Causes Traffic Delays

SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WECT) -- Following an overnight flash flood, the town of Southport is facing multiple roadway shutdowns.

The National Weather Service A Flash Flood Warning was issued for Southeastern Brunswick County on May 27, remaining in effect until 2 a.m., with numerous roads in the region impacted as a result.

As reported by the Southport Police Department (SPD), these locations are currently inaccessible:

  • E Leonard Street between Fire Fly Lane and Rob Gandy Boulevard.
  • 8th Street close to the corner of E Leonard Street.

SPD reported that areas containing abandoned vehicles have been cordoned off with yellow tape by emergency personnel, and towing services are currently addressing their removal.

The SPD reports that their teams are keeping an eye on the floodwaters and attending to emergency calls in the region. They advise motorists to drive carefully and minimize trips when feasible.
