Plato's Closet Presents: 'Take What You Need' Event – Join the Fun!

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) – In recent months, Plato’s Closet has been setting aside clothing items for their forthcoming 'Take What You Need' event scheduled for May 22nd.

"Essentially, we plan to unlock the entrances at 9 a.m. It looks like there might be quite a queue, so we’ll provide doughnuts and refreshments for those waiting before opening time. However, our store will officially start operating at nine o'clock. Customers can then enter, and we’ve arranged various bins categorized by size to simplify shopping and help visitors easily locate their desired items," explained Mikki Fitzer, co-proprietor of Plato’s Closet in Sioux Falls.

The store partly attributes the return of thrift shopping to the anticipated long queues.

"I simply felt outdated as a child; being into secondhand stuff seemed somewhat embarrassing back then. However, nowadays, discovering great bargains is quite thrilling. We consistently offer our patrons an assortment of items," explained Amanda Schaefers, who serves as the assistant manager at Plato’s Closet.

The idea for the event came from wanting to give back to customers, but this isn’t the only way the business is making a difference.

"We have contributed to the Humane Society and the Children’s Home Shelter. Next weekend, we will participate in the Averra Race Against Cancer. This is something entirely new for us. Given all the love we've received from our community, we felt compelled to support the families who stand behind us," explained Fitzer.

They anticipate lengthy queues because it occurs the day following the conclusion of the academic year for the Sioux Falls School District.

"Just witnessing the enthusiasm, with crowds flooding in, reminds me of our version of Black Friday. Observing the queues and people eager to discover what treasures they might find along with the bargains makes it exciting. Plus, everything being free just adds to the appeal," explained Schaefers.
