Pirates handing out Mac Miller bobbleheads at July game

The Pirates will distribute Mac Miller bobbleheads at a game in July, paying tribute to the deceased rapper and his connections to Pittsburgh.

On Thursday, the Pirates shared a montage video on social media hinting at the upcoming bobblehead giveaway, with the message, "This is for you, Malcolm."

In the video, passionate Pirates supporters talk simultaneously about how Mac Miller influenced their lives. Clips showcasing locations such as Blue Slide Park, Jerry’s Records, and Frick Park Market are woven throughout. Eventually, the footage unveils a bobblehead figure of Miller sporting a Pirates uniform along with his signature “most dope” hand tattoo.

"One Pirates supporter mentions, 'He helped me feel at ease with myself,' " followed by another who states, “He truly accomplished this through self-reliance, which embodies the spirit of Pittsburgh.” A third fan adds, “He stood for our community, you know? He embodied what we stand for as a city.”

The video likewise includes Pirates actor Andrew McCutchen stating, "When he discusses Clemente and the Pirates, you understand, he's simply a true-blue Pittsburgh person, which's precisely why individuals loved him so much."

Miller, who hailed from Pittsburgh's Point Breeze neighborhood, passed away at the age of 26. from an accidental overdose in 2018.

The bobbleheads will be distributed during the third yearly Yinzerpalooza weekend, an event that honors everything Pittsburgh. The Pirates' website says The initial 20,000 attendees at the White Sox match scheduled for July 19 at 6:40 p.m. will have the opportunity to receive a bobblehead as a souvenir.

Prior to the event, a block party will take place on Federal Street featuring live performances, beverages provided by Wigle Whiskey, and additional entertainment.
