[Opinion] Dru Hill’s Dance Turns into Family Punishment; The Internet Can’t Stop Laughing
There’s a new trend going around... and parents, you might want to get in on this one! For all those millennial moms and dads struggling with effective ways to discipline their children, the internet has the perfect solution that’s bound to unlock an old memory.
We’re sure you remember Dru Hill, the ‘90s R&B group consisting of original members Sisqó, Nokio, Jazz, and Woody. One of the band’s most notable records, “Tell Me,” peaked at No. 18 on Billboard, and now — almost 30 years after the song’s release — parents online are using the video’s corresponding dance to teach their kids a lesson.
“You’ve named it... Enter it into the black parents handbook millennials edition under punishments,” @JClark787 tweeted. These will always be called 'Dru Hills.' As in, give me fifty of those 'Dru Hills.'
The trend focused on parents telling their kids to recreate the iconic jump, step combo from the “Tell Me” music video. Sure, it might sound easy, but after about 30 of them, you’re bound to feel the burn. “It’s torture,” one kid yelled while crying to “Tell Me.”
But while some kids understood the assignments, other folks online called out the younger generation for not getting the moves down right. “Why this new generation can’t hop? ” @l3sliee asked. Lol, they look like they're doing a river dance.
On TikTok, a parent shared that she attempted to have her son complete 500 Dru Hill challenges, but he utterly failed. "Things did not work out as intended," she commented. She added in the caption. "I have no idea how to do this!" her son exclaimed as he attempted to hop, skip, and leap in time with the music.
Apparently, the punishment works for kids of all ages. Even Rollie from the reality television show “Baddies” got her teenage son to join in on the challenge after he was caught trying to steal her car. “Fifty Dru Hills, let’s go, ” she demanded.
If you're a parent questioning whether Drue Hill penalties really work as punishment, consider this: Comedian Will Millar’s son was offered a choice between getting spanked or completing 25 Drue Hills exercises. The child swiftly opted for the physical discipline instead of the exercise regimen. "Want to misbehave at school? That means 25 Drue Hills... Let's go!" Miller informed his little boy. Do you want to face getting your behind beaten or would you prefer handling these Dru Hill challenges?" His son quickly replied, "I'd rather have my backside whipped!
@nogumhundo suggested that these children might end up disliking Dru Hill and their iconic album... which would make sense! "There'll likely be more Dru Hill detractors around 15 years from now," he said. they wrote.
I know Joe Jackson would be proud of you all finally. @cartomancycarmn tweeted, referring to Joe Jackson, Michael Jackson’s father. @longlivelillip_ calle D Dru Hills "is without a doubt the most amusing form of punishment."
The results are in! For parents looking for a new approach to discipline, Dru Hill might just offer a fresh method for dealing with their children. Alternatively, you could follow in the footsteps of others who have taken this route. @gsharpmusicllc Someone grabbed a pair of weights and transformed them into a workout regimen.
