Nottinghamshire Care Services fundraise for brain injury charity

Cygnet Grange, located on Mason Street, and Cygnet Lodge, located on Sandown Road, are two separate eight-bed neuropsychiatric rehabilitation, care and treatment facilities for those affected by acquired brain injuries, run by Cygnet Health Care.
Staff and service users at the two Nottinghamshire services undertook a fancy dress walk this Action for Brain Injury Week in aid of the charity Headway.
Headway works to improve people’s lives after acquiring brain injuries by providing support and information services. The charity, chosen by staff and patients due to their close connection to the cause, also provides emergency funds to assist people dealing with financial implications in the aftermath of a brain injury.
Action for Brain Injury Week, which runs from 19 to 25 May, is an annual campaign organised by Headway and aims to raise awareness of the issues faced by individuals and families affected by brain injuries.
As part of their fundraising, the Cygnet Health Care services trekked 6.2 miles from Cygnet Grange to nearby Cygnet Hospital Sherwood donned in fancy dress. Costumes included the likes of a homemade turtle shell, an inflatable cow and Shrek.
Kelly LeGrice, Cygnet Grange Team Leader, said: “Headway is an important charity to everyone here at both Cygnet Grange and Cygnet Lodge. It is very close to our hearts and it does so much for people. Both of our services are also Headway-accredited so giving back to the charity meant a lot to both service users and staff.
“It is great to help such an important charity and our service users were proud of aiding a great cause. For our service users, walking 6.2 miles is a huge challenge and everyone is so proud of their efforts.
“Without donations, Headway would struggle to provide the excellent support they give to both individuals and families affected by brain injuries. Many people don’t realise that it isn’t just the individual affected but also their loved ones.”
Cygnet Health Care has managed to raise £130 thus far and is keeping up their efforts during Action for Brain Injury Week through various fundraising events such as a barbecue, garden party, crazy hair day, and a pyjama day scheduled later this week.
