Movie Lover's Paradise Moves: Film Madness Transfers to New Spot Across from Hollywood Theatre in Northeast Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN The Hollywood District in Northeast Portland is soon set to transform into "every movie enthusiast's ideal neighborhood."
Legendary video rental store Movie Madness will soon relocate across the street from the Hollywood Theatre on Northeast Sandy Boulevard. These two establishments are operated by the same nonprofit entity.
Doug Whyte, the executive director of both the Hollywood Theatre and Movie Madness, informed KOIN 6 News through an email that they are currently in the "initial phases" of the proposed relocation.
Currently situated approximately two miles south of the Hollywood Theatre, Movie Madness can be found on Southeast Belmont Street within Portland’s Sunnyside neighborhood. Whyte presented a "conceptual rendering" illustrating how Movie Madness might appear if placed in the same block as the Hollywood Theatre; however, he noted that the actual outcome may vary from this depiction.
Whyte mentioned this is all part of the nonprofit’s "vision" to establish “a Film District” within the area.
"We imagine an energetic center of communal activity that will attract cinema enthusiasts from across the region and further afield. The Hollywood Film District in Portland aims to bring together all elements of an exceptional cinematic experience: Unique movie showings, festivals, areas for educational courses, and social venues where moviegoers can interact with one another. To put it succinctly, the Film District will embody 'a cinephile's ideal neighborhood,'" stated Whyte.
The renovations at the Hollywood Theatre, which include enhanced accessibility features, eco-friendly systems, and an elevated cinema experience throughout, are also included in the plans mentioned by Whyte.
As part of the transition to Movie Madness, the establishment has expanded to include a vast collection of thousands of DVDs and Blu-Rays, along with a museum showcasing movie props. miniplex .

The Hollywood Theatre is presently wrapping up a feasibility study for the updated plans, soon to be succeeded by what they call a "quiet campaign phase," according to Whyte. It is anticipated that it will take roughly three years from now until Movie Madness relocates and the organization achieves its vision of the Hollywood Film District.
