MD Ranks High as One of the Best States for Moms, New Report Reveals

MARYLAND — Raising children and taking care of families comes with a mix of happiness and difficulties for mothers, and the place they reside can make it easier for them to handle these highs and lows of parenthood, as indicated by a recent list.

In honor of mothers before Mother's Day, Kremp Florist checked out which states provide the best backing for them.

The ranking of the top and bottom states for mothers was established by evaluating all 50 states based on 11 crucial factors such as paid parental leave, childcare expenses, and employment safeguards. According to the findings, researchers concluded that a state’s mother-friendliness primarily hinges on its public policies.

"While each family has its own needs and faces unique struggles, the resources available in a particular state significantly impact a mother’s choices and overall quality of life," the ranking states.

Based on the rankings, Maryland is the second most favorable state in the U.S. for mothers.

In Maryland, the typical yearly income for a woman stood at $49,000, surpassing that of most other states. The state legislation provides women with 12 weeks of compensated parental leave along with ensuring their employment rights are safeguarded.

Although states with greater salaries often score better in rankings, they frequently face steep childcare expenses as well. The report highlights this issue using examples like Massachusetts, Maryland, and New York. These regions boast higher median female earnings; however, Maryland’s childcare costs exceed $11,000 annually.

According to the rankings, Massachusetts has been named the top state for mothers.
