Man Plunges Car into Lake at Frye Island Ferry Landing

FRYE ISLAND, Maine (WMTW) — A person was transported to the hospital after they crashed their vehicle off the Frye Island Ferry Landing in Raymond early Saturday morning. At the time, the ferry was not moored at the pier.

The Cumberland County Sheriff, Kevin Joyce, reports that a Dodge Dart being operated by 73-year-old David Bruce from Portland veered off the exit ramp and plunged into Sebago Lake.

Raymond Fire and Rescue Chief Bruce Huper stated that the motorist managed to exit the sinking car and received assistance from a person standing at the dock who promptly pulled him out of the water. Emergency care was provided until the arrival of the Raymond Fire and Rescue team.

Bruce was taken to Maine Medical Center with unspecified injuries.

It is not clear why the driver drove off the ramp.

The car was removed from the water on Saturday afternoon , and the Frye Island Ferry Service is fully operational at this time.
