Madison Appoints Brandy Williams as Permanent Fire Chief

Madison has removed the "interim" label from its fire chief position, officially appointing Brandy Williams to the role she has been temporarily holding since February.

Williams' appointment takes effect right away. She has been acting as the interim fire chief. since David Bailey resigned The latter has been holding the position since 2017.

In 1998, Williams became part of the Madison Fire and Rescue team, with numerous municipal authorities praising her commitment to serving Madison.

You've been here for quite some time now, and you deserve this," stated Councilor Teddy Powell following the unanimous decision to approve her appointment. "I have received numerous messages from individuals who have collaborated with you for many years—this truly signifies their appreciation.

Mayor Paul Finley stated that one of the key points he and the councilors emphasized during their consideration for selecting a new fire chief was ensuring "that the individuals we hire remain with us long-term."

The environment inside the fire department is crucial, and I believe [Williams] has the backing," Finley stated. "We're not simply appointing an individual; we're selecting someone with a strategic approach and a pledge of support from her squad.

Following the vote, the council members along with numerous firefighters who were present rose and clapped their hands.

Madison Fire and Rescue has "a strategy for the future," she stated. "We will keep developing this plan." She added, "We will move ahead and improve each day."

The position pays $169,267.
