Laredo HR Dept. Honors Statewide Prestige for Innovative Programs
The City of Laredo's Human Resources Department Has Been Honored with a Prestigious statewide Prize for Their Cutting-Edge Initiatives
The city of Laredo reported that its Human Resources Department received the Human Resources Impact Award of Distinction from the Texas Municipal Human Resources Association.
The accolade was bestowed on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the TMHRA Annual Conference held in San Antonio, Texas. This honor is awarded to city-based HR divisions with populations exceeding 25,000 residents for their exceptional leadership and pioneering efforts in local government personnel management.
This prestigious award honors the Laredo Human Resources Department for its innovative programs that have produced significant outcomes and promoted substantial development within the department during the last eighteen months.
One of the most significant initiatives is "Project Achieve," which aims to enhance workforce development. This program provides employees across various tiers with chances to expand their skills, take on leadership roles, and progress further within the company.
The program focuses on:
- Cultivating a highly skilled team throughout every department.
- Promoting skill development for professional growth.
- Getting staff ready to turn into pioneering leaders.
- Backing a leadership transition strategy that syncs with the municipality's future objectives.
Via Project Achieve, the department intends to involve a minimum of 50% of the City’s 3,000 employees in professional development activities every fiscal year.
Moreover, the department received an accolade for "Project Excellence," a tripartite initiative aimed at recognizing employees, which celebrated the committed public servants of the city. This encompasses:
- The Employee Highlight, an online publication featuring city employees and their achievements.
- An Employee Longevity Acknowledgment initiative was introduced in October 2023, honoring workers during their service milestones.
- Public Service Recognition Week, wrapping up with a Family Night event to celebrate city workers and their families.
This accolade mirrors the city of Laredo’s dedication to its most valuable resource—our residents," stated Joseph Neeb, the city manager of Laredo. "The Human Resources Department has excelled in launching initiatives aimed at fostering career growth, acknowledging staff efforts, and cultivating a standard of excellence throughout our institution.
The Texas Municipal Human Resources Association offers a professional forum where municipal human resources professionals throughout Texas can work together, exchange successful strategies, and tackle personnel issues within local governments.
