Laptop Program Empowers Vulnerable Youth in UK to Craft Brighter Tomorrows

The South Yorkshire-based youth homelessness organisation Roundabout is aiding young individuals in shaping a brighter tomorrow by supplying them with laptops necessary for pursuing education, finding jobs, and receiving training.

Studies indicate that many young individuals receiving support from homelessness services such as Roundabout are without jobs and subsisting on only £70 weekly.

Only a few possess savings, numerous individuals carry debts, and everyone must bear their personal expenses for daily life.

However, Roundabout can tap into funds from the national homelessness charity called Every Youth’s Employability Boost fund. This funding source exclusively offers laptops and also caters to expenses such as course fees, equipment, and transportation costs.

The Boost is crucial for providing homeless youth with the confidence needed to excel, free from financial worries.

One of the beneficiaries of Roundabout’s involvement in the programme is Abdul.

Roundabout’s Dispersed Service Manager Yasmin Kempton stated: "This laptop will grant Abdul extensive access to information that can aid his college studies, offer him a chance to enhance his reading and writing abilities, and furnish him with tools to make use of the various online resources available."

“Since Abdul’s primary language isn’t English, this laptop will provide him with access to online dictionaries, grammar checkers, and language-learning applications.”

Using English e-books and articles for reading practise will aid in broadening his lexicon, enabling him to learn at his preferred speed, thus making language acquisition more adaptable and convenient.

Abdul will additionally have access to researching nearby services and community groups, looking into employment openings, and honing his interview techniques.

He will gain access to news, information, and cultural resources, aiding him in staying knowledgeable and engaged with his community. This will help overcome digital exclusion and allow him to actively participate in society and avail himself of every opportunity presented.

Roundabout Fundraising Manager Emily Jones commented: "A significant number of the disadvantaged youth we assist, such as Abdul, encounter difficulties due to lacking permanent housing and family backing. Many among them also bear the scars of traumatic experiences during their formative years."

Thanks to the Every Youth Employability Boost, we can offer the resources they need to start taking strides toward a more prosperous future.

A laptop has become a vital component of daily life for numerous individuals, serving purposes ranging from education to job applications.

“The fund means that our young people have access to opportunities that might otherwise be denied them in such important areas as education, employment and training.”
