Jimmy Horn Jr. Sends a Clear Message to North Carolina

The Panther squad, which is looking to boost its special teams performance, has added exceptional speed and kickoff abilities with their selection in the sixth round. As the Carolina Panthers start their rookie minicamp, they welcome an influx of fresh talent. This year’s draft contributed 11 picks, complemented by 19 undrafted free agents who have signed up, along with numerous trialists all competing for one of the limited positions available on the 90-member preseason roster.
A standout prospect who has caught everyone's attention isJimmy Horn Jr., a wide receiver selected in the sixth round from Colorado with the 208thoverall pick. Over the last couple of years, Hornhas been recognizedfor his capabilityto makebig playsalongsidequarterbackSheduorSanders.Hiscontributionas anoviceisexpectedtostartinthe special teamarea. He mentionedafterhisinitialpractice thatehe'llbehandlingbothkickoffsandpuntsreturns, andexpressedenthusiasmaboutjoining theCarolina Panthersorganization.
In Colorado, Horn frequently showcased his game-altering pace and nimbleness, accumulating more than 700 all-purpose yards during the previous season. His sharp changes of direction, rapid acceleration, and knack for locating open spaces rendered him a danger whenever he had possession of the ball. Given that the Panthers are eager to boost their explosive capabilities in returns and add depth to their receiver lineup, Horn stands a good chance of making an immediate impact with the team.
I'm here to contribute," Horn stated. "Whether the coaches require me for returns, as a wide receiver, or on special teams, I'm prepared for whatever they need.
He could excel particularly as a kickoff returner, where he stood out nationally for his performance. Over four seasons playing for both South Florida and Colorado, Horn accumulated 716 kickoff return yards from 46 attempts, averaging an impressive 21.7 yards per return, including one touchdown. Additionally, he gained 90 more yards with 14 punt returns under his belt.
Currently, veteran running back Raheem Blackshear seems to be leading as the top contender for return responsibilities following his performance in 2024. However, if Horn showcases his speed and field awareness during the summer—especially when it comes to punt returns—he might present a strong argument for taking over that role.
As he starts his journey from Colorado to Carolina, Jimmy Horn Jr. appears set to emerge as one of the Panthers' most thrilling and significant picks in the later rounds.
