Jim Irsay, Owner of the Indianapolis Colts, Passes Away at Age 65
INDIANAPOLIS ( WXIN — The Indianapolis Colts announced that their owner, Jim Irsay, passed away at the age of 65.
The veteran head coach of the Colts had been grappling with multiple health concerns and was undergoing physical therapy in Beverly Hills, California, as reported. Nexstar’s WXIN .
We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of our cherished owner and CEO, Jim Irsay, who quietly departed in his sleep today," stated Colts Chief Operating Officer Pete Ward in an official announcement. "The depth of Jim’s devotion and enthusiasm towards the Indianapolis Colts cannot be overstated; alongside these qualities was his remarkable philanthropy, steadfast support for the local community, and above all else, his profound affection for his family. As they mourn, our heartfelt condolences extend to his daughters—Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt, and Kalen Jackson—as well as his whole family.
In his statement, Ward continued by saying that some of Irsay’s most cherished recollections were formed during his younger years when he assisted with the Colts’ training camps in Baltimore. Ward additionally highlighted how proud Irsay was of the bonds he forged with Colts players, coaches, and team personnel.
In 1997, Irsay gained full control of the team. Under his leadership, the Colts secured multiple division championships and triumphed in the 2007 Super Bowl.
Jim's kindness has touched every corner of Indianapolis, throughout the entire state of Indiana, and beyond," Ward stated. "His dedication to giving back transformed everyday acts into charitable endeavors. He consistently supported numerous groups and individuals striving for improved lives. One of Jim's great loves was music, and sharing his band and vast collection with audiences worldwide filled him with immense happiness. In essence, he aimed to enhance the world around him, and this commitment remained unwavering. Although Jim leaves behind an irreplaceable void within his family, the Colts organization, and fan communities globally, his compassionate and distinctive spirit continues to inspire us.
