JEFFERSON COUNTY, Wash. - The Hood Canal Bridge has reopened following a mechanical problem that led to its closure for several hours on Monday.
What we knowAround 2 p.m. on Monday, the Washington State Department of Transportation initially reported the closure of the bridge.
The bridge apparently had a mechanical failure when it was closed routinely for a watercraft at 1:02 p.m.
Teams labored to address the problem for multiple hours before finally opening the bridge again at approximately 9:30 p.m.
Motorists were instructed to use a diversion route through Shelton utilizing State Route 3 and US 101, resulting in an additional approximately four hours of journey time.
