Flower Shops Blossom Before Mother's Day, But Tariffs Loom on the Horizon

With Mother's Day this Sunday — floral shops are blooming with business.

Inside Cardell Floral, it's been a busy day fulfilling orders, answering calls, and making deliveries. Mother's Day is the second busiest week for Jill Lascarbeau and her team.

"It's a wonderful business to be in and bring joy to people," smiled Lescarbeau.

This year, she said all eyes have been on yellow roses for bouquets. Those roses are from South America — and could come with a higher price tag.

She stated that this is truly an unprecedented experience for us.

As stated by the National Retail Federation, Americans are projected to spend over $3 billion just on flowers.

Tariffs have become an unforeseen obstacle for florists this year. They are now bracing themselves for the tightening grip.

We haven't determined the complete scope yet since we bought roses and flowers before Mother's Day," Lescarbeau explained. "Prices have increased, but I'm still uncertain about the overall effect.

In spite of the economic strain, Lascarbeau discovers solace among the flowers and in crafting exquisite arrangements for his clientele.
