Flag Football Showdown: Section 1 Finals Set for Saturday

The matchups are scheduled for Saturday's Section 1 flag football finals at Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak.

Class A: No. 1 Scarsdale vs. No. 3 Arlington, 11 a.m.

Class B: No. 1 Brewster faces off against No. 2 Tappan Zee at 1:30 p.m.

Class C: No. 1 Hendrick Hudson versus No. 2 Ardsley, at 4 p.m.

On Wednesday, Scarsdale defeated Carmel with a score of 27-0, whereas Arlington pulled off an upset against New Rochelle, scoring 13-6. Seeded at number one, Scarsdale (with a record of 18-0) previously claimed the Section 1 Division 1 title last year and narrowly missed out on the New York State championship in 2024. Meanwhile, Arlington (currently holding a 12-5 record), which just started as a team this year, has now secured ten consecutive wins.

During Arlington's semi-final victory, Gianna Martin scored with a rushing touchdown, and Senoia Salmon achieved one through reception. Jamie Gemmel pulled off seven flags, while Jazzy Triunfo made an interception.

Unbeaten Brewster (18-0), which claimed the Section 1 Division 2 championship last year, defeated Horace Greeley with a score of 12-0. Similarly, undefeated Tappan Zee (17-0) secured victory over Yorktown with a score of 14-0.

Ava Fagin passed for two touchdowns and accumulated 117 passing yards, along with adding 84 rushing yards for the Bears. Avery Dudones and Sofia Rosamilia contributed with touchdown catches for Brewster.

At Tappan Zee, Eve Girardi recorded 16 out of 28 pass attempts for 81 yards with two touchdowns. Nina Vasquez secured seven catches for 51 yards. Ella Sabatini made three receptions totaling 15 yards along with one touchdown. Jody Long contributed with three receptions covering 16 yards and also scored a touchdown.

In Class C, Hendrick Hudson defeated Westlake/Briarcliff with a score of 39-18. In the other semi-final match, Ardsley won against Bronxville with a score of 26-13.

During Hen Hud's semifinal victory, Lucy Mager contributed to six scores—completing five passing touchdowns (accumulating 238 yards through the air) and adding another score via rush (with a run of 124 yards).

Sectional tournament champions move forward to compete in the state tournament.
