Fire Truck Fun: Curious Minds Welcome as Avoca Fire Dept. Hosts Touch-a-Truck Event

Kids of every age converged in Avoca for an intimate look at different kinds of trucks and emergency service vehicles.

Organized by the Avoca Fire Department, the touch-a-truck event showcased machinery and gear from more than 17 distinct groups.

Children mostly encounter our team during unfortunate events," explained Janice Lewis, who coordinates fundraisers for the Avoca Fire Department. "Thus, we bring them here so they can observe our personnel both equipped and unprepared. This way, seeing firefighters or EMTs approach with various tools won’t seem as scary.

Kids got to clamber aboard all sorts of fire trucks, buses, ambulances, farming machines, and construction vehicles. Many also had fun getting behind the wheel and beeping the horns whenever they wanted.

This fundraising event is the most significant one this year for the Avoca Fire Department, with the money collected going towards supporting the station’s regular operations.
