Cathedral Seeks Artists to Celebrate 1,400 Years of Glory

A cathedral plans to present two artists with £10,000 each so they can produce pieces for its 1,400th anniversary festivities.
The York Minster announced that the Talent Award will be available for artists involved in different fields and "at any point in their careers."
Applicants are requested to suggest extensive setups that convey the minster's heritage via the concepts of "renewal and transformation."
The selected entries will be displayed for 10 months to commemorate the anniversary in 2027.
Recent immersive art exhibitions have featured the Phoenix exhibition , marking 40 years since a devastating fire at the minster, and Colour and Light , which delved into the wildlife of York.
A representative for the minister stated: "The Talent Awards welcome participants from all around the globe and provide an occasion to participate in the continuous story of a place that has been a hub of culture, craftsmanship, and community for almost 1,400 years."

Cherie Federico, who oversees the yearly Aesthetica short film festival in York, is collaborating with the minister on the awards.
She highlighted particular interest in how artists can delve into the concepts of water and baptism—strong symbols of rejuvenation and change.
The Very Rev Dominic Barrington, Dean of York, commented: "Anyone who visits the minster departs with an appreciation for the craftsmanship that countless generations have invested in this site."
These vibrant artistic commissions provide an opportunity to revisit, reappraise, and reaffirm our purpose in modern times via the perspective of current art trends.
