Bristol, Va. Takes Steps Forward in Landfill Clean-Up
BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — Officials in Bristol, Virginia, are proceeding with cleanup initiatives at the town’s now-closed landfill site.
The city is inviting proposals for a gas collection and management system for the landfill that closed in 2022.
Mayor Becky Nave states that the city remains compliant with a federal court order.
The odor levels have decreased significantly. We’ve received far fewer complaints regarding this issue," Nave stated. "This indicates that our efforts are making a positive impact, which is crucial to us. Additionally, we recognize the importance of addressing every aspect occurring at the landfill site since we're investing substantial funds—amounting to millions of dollars—in these initiatives.
The mayor stated that remediation will require several years due to the continuous nature of the repairs.
