Body Discovered in Long Island River During Search for Missing Swimmer, Police Say
A two-day hunt for a missing swimmer on Long Island concluded tragically as his body was discovered in the Nissequogue River, according to police statements made on Wednesday.
The Marine Bureau of the Suffolk County Police Department was alerted to a 911 call at approximately 7:50 p.m. on Monday, May 12, regarding an individual in trouble in the water close to Old Dock Road in Kings Park.
Search crews combed the region for 48 hours.
The search concluded at approximately 6:40 p.m. on May 14, when officials retrieved the body of a male individual from the river, according to authorities.
The individual was declared deceased at the location by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The police mentioned that the man's identity is currently being kept confidential until his relatives can be informed.
According to detectives, the initial investigation suggests that the death does not seem to have been caused by criminal activity.
The investigation is ongoing.
