Art Gallery Celebrates "Landmark Moment" in Its 125-Year History

Following some conservation efforts, an art gallery has reinstated a part of its exhibit area as it marks its 125th year since opening.

The Upper Gallery at Bath’s Victoria Art Gallery, which can be visited for free, has reopened to the public following significant conservation efforts aimed at safeguarding the Grade II-listed structure.

The location contains the Bath & North East Somerset Council’s (BANES) assortment of public art pieces, along with works from artists like Paul Klee and Grayson Perry.

Robert Campbell, who leads culture and heritage at BANES, described it as a "significant milestone" for a "highly cherished" council-run arts venue.

Everyone can visit the Victoria Art Gallery at no cost if they are residents within the BANES Council area and possess a Discovery Card. The gallery depends on contributions from tourists and community members for its operations.

As conservation efforts were underway, the gallery staff created The Modelling Room, a specialized learning and engagement space designed for educational institutions and local communities.

The council expressed their deep gratitude for the dedication of their supporters and the specific contributor who aided in financing the creation of the new area.

Mr. Campbell stated that they are recognizing its significant history while also putting resources into its future.

The finishing touches on crucial preservation efforts in the Upper Gallery and the introduction of our inaugural specialized area for learning and engagement mark significant achievements.

We're delighted to invite the public back into this cherished cultural venue.

The exhibit titled "First Impressions: Printer's Prototypes of Creations by Renowned 20th Century Artists" is currently being showcased in the Upper Gallery up until July 6.
