Arson Suspect Damages Hydrant While Setting Cleveland House Ablaze

Cleveland, OH (WOIO)—A suspected arsonist hit a nearby fire hydrant with their pickup truck shortly after igniting a house blaze on the eastern part of the city during the early hours of Wednesday, as reported by the Cleveland firefighters.

Lieutenant Mike Norman stated that the crew was dispatched to the unoccupied house, which was undergoing renovation, located in the 1300 block of East 89th Street around 3 a.m.

Lieutenant Norman stated that the owners were evicting a squatter when they began the fire, and he is the individual responsible for starting it.

The individual, whose identity hasn't been disclosed, was apprehended by the department’s fire investigation team right at the location.

No one was injured; nevertheless, the blaze also engulfed an adjacent house, according to the firefighters.

The Red Cross is helping the three adults and three children who resided beside them.

The firefighters indicated that the damages amount to approximately $150,000.
