Westfield's Lithium Battery Storage Project Canceled: What This Means

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) — On Friday, Westfield Mayor Mike McCabe stated that the proposed lithium battery energy storage project in the city has been terminated.
"After several months of discussion and deliberation, I'm delighted to share that Jupiter Power has decided to withdraw their proposal for a battery storage facility for the City of Westfield," stated Mayor McCabe following receipt of a statement from Jupiter on Friday morning.
The firm has announced the cancellation of the Streamfield Project and will redirect their developmental resources to other areas, due to significant community objections regarding the planned initiative for Medeiros Way. Locals expressed worries about potential fire hazards and safety issues since the location is close to the Barnes Aquifer.
City leaders met with Jupiter Power over several months to address these concerns. McCabe on Friday attributed the public’s involvement and the voicing of their concerns to the decision.
Jupiter Power has issued a statement stating:
Jupiter Power boasts an extensive range of initiatives currently under development throughout the United States, continuously assessing which ventures deserve further investment and advancement. Although we recognize the significant economic and grid stability advantages the Streamfield project could provide for the area, and we're naturally disheartened by this turn of events, Jupiter Power has decided from a business standpoint to end the Streamfield initiative and redirect our developmental resources elsewhere.
