Ukrainian Gratitude Orchard Honors Fallen Soldier in Caerphilly

Ukrainian displaced persons along with local residents came together at Morgan Jones Park in Caerphilly for the launch of the second stage of the Ukrainian Gratitude Orchard project.

The memorial led by refugees acknowledges Wales’ assistance amid the continuing conflict in Ukraine.

The occasion featured the planting of fruit trees, sunflowers, along with a chestnut tree to honour a deceased Ukrainian serviceman.

Councillor Jamie Pritchard stated: "The Gratitude Orchard signifies more than just symbolism—it embodies genuine friendships and enduring connections."

Attendees enjoyed poetry readings, a children's art exchange, and sealed a time capsule.

Organiser Yuliia Bond stated: "Today, our act of planting trees goes beyond mere tree-planting; we're also cultivating memories."
