At approximately 1:15 p.m., emergency responders arrived at the intersection of I-220 East and I-49, where an eighteen wheeler was partly dangling over the edge of the highway.

The ramp was shut down as they worked to extricate the driver from the 18-wheeler. Fortunately, there were no injuries. The Shreveport Fire Department intervened to rescue the trucker from the cabin of the semitrailer.

This location usually poses an issue, especially during rainfall.

At around the same period, another accident occurred nearby on I-220 East at the Cross Lake Bridge. Several crashes led to significant traffic disruptions for motorists during the Wednesday afternoon commute.

KSLA has been contacted via numerous viewer emails expressing their concerns regarding this specific section of the intersection. According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation (LaDOTD), they are reviewing accident reports under various weather conditions—both wet and dry—to identify an appropriate fix.

They also intend to add an extra safety feature to the road surface to enhance its grip.

"That will enable motorists' tires to have a better hold on the road surface in that region, especially during rain. We anticipate observing a beneficial effect regarding the reduction in crash occurrences in that zone," stated Erin Buchanan from LaDOTD.
