TRACE Denies Connection to Death of Nigerian Motorcyclist
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, known as TRACE, has refuted any connection with the road incident that resulted in the death of an unnamed motorcycle rider in Abeokuta.
The incident that took place around 5 pm across from the Federal High Court in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Wednesday, was caused by an orange and white articulated truck bearing the label A&O.
According to DAILY POST, the vehicle accused of being pursued by TRACE officials drove over the motorcyclist as it attempted to flee.
The person who passed away and was taken to Federal Medical Centre by individuals using the roads expired before reaching the hospital.
Nevertheless, Babatunde Akinbiyi, who serves as the TRACE Public Relations Officer, conveyed in a statement provided to journalists on Thursday that the event had been misrepresented and misconstrued.
Akinbiyi asserted that the officers were not pursuing the articulated vehicle; their patrol car was performing its routine task of monitoring the highway within the city limits with the aim of maintaining smooth traffic flow and conducting checks.
He claimed that upon spotting the patrol car, the truck abruptly turned sharply right at high speed toward SUBEB, accidentally colliding with a private motorcyclist from behind in the process.
Akinbiyi observed that during the incident, numerous amulets, malevolent items, and bars of soap dropped from the motorcycle.
He stated, "The unfortunate event under discussion, due to its implications for human life, misrepresented the actual circumstances and issues at hand. TRACE was not pursuing or racing against any specific vehicle since our policy does not involve making arrests at all costs."
The TRACE patrol car in question was performing its standard duties of monitoring the highways within the city to maintain smooth traffic flow and address any safety issues that could result in congestion, obstructions, and wasted time, if not promptly handled.
Upon spotting the TRACE patrol vehicle, known for typical behaviors exhibited by truckers, especially those with secrets they wish to hide, the particular trucker driving at hand abruptly turned sharply right toward SUBEB. In doing so, he collided with an unknown motorcyclist coming from behind. As a result, various amulets, sinister items, and bars of soap fell off the motorcycle.
Sadly, the unnamed motorcyclist passed away at the Federal Medical Centre in Idi-Aba after being urgently transported there.
He revealed that both the driver and the articulated vehicle have been detained and seized at the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force in Ibara, Abeokuta, where they will undergo further investigation and possibly face prosecution.
TRACE refutes any involvement in the death of the Ogun motorcyclist.
