Steelers Draft Tracker: Expert Analysis and Grading of Every Day 3 Pick

The last day of the 2025 NFL draft has arrived and we are ready for it. Pittsburgh Steelers will bring in additional new players after incorporating two prospects during the initial two days.
In the first round, the Steelers selected Oregon defensive lineman Derrick Harmon, which took care of a major need for the defense. Then, the Steelers sprung for Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson in Round 3, which gives the team another option at a position that doesn't have a sure starter. Of course, the Steelers didn't have a second-rounder because of the DK Metcalf trade.
In what has been the biggest surprise of the draft thus far, the Steelers and every other team in the NFL has passed on Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders over the first three rounds, something nobody expected.
On Day 3, Sanders continues to stay on the draft board unexpectedly. While we anticipate he will eventually be selected, his specific round and drafting team have yet to be determined. Considering that Pittsburgh has not picked a quarterback so far, they could still potentially consider the player from Colorado as an option.
Following along with our tracker below for all of the latest picks the Steelers make. We'll be providing grades and analysis for each selection as soon as they come.
Steelers NFL draft grades for Day 3
Round 4, Pick 123: EDGE Jack Sawyer, Ohio State - The Steelers didn't have an immediate need at edge rusher, but Sawyer was just clearly too good to pass up on in this spot. Sawyer was a great leader at Ohio State and is a better run defender than an edge rusher, but he should make an impact in that area (GRADE: B+) .
Round 5, Selection 164 (via Kansas City): DT Yahya Black, Iowa – Following a tradeback with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Steelers secured an additional inside lineman, addressing their significant need heading into the draft. Standing tall at 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 336 pounds, Black is known for devouring blockers. Although his contribution in rushing the passer might be limited, he'll excel as a strong run defender in a situational capacity (RATING: A).
Round 6, Selection 185 (via Seattle): QB Will Howard from Ohio State—At long last, we have a quarterback! Howard was part of the team that clinched a national championship last year, showcasing his ability to succeed at the highest level. In addition to this proven track record, he possesses every attribute necessary for success in the NFL: a powerful throwing arm, precision passing, and exceptional athleticism. He presents an exciting prospect as a potential developmental player for the Steelers going forward. (GRADE: A) .
Round 7, Selection 226 (via Kansas City): LB Carson Bruener hails from Washington – his father is Mark Bruener, who was once a tight end for the Steelers, giving him strong ties to the NFL. While he may face challenges in making significant defensive contributions at the professional level, Bruener might carve out a niche as a specialist on special teams. This would be a reasonable expectation for someone selected in the seventh round. (GRADE: B) .
Round 7, Selection 229 (via Philadelphia): CB Donte Kent from Central Michigan — possesses a favorable combination of height and swiftness and shows promise as a successful blitzer. However, he frequently gambles too much when defending passes and lacks sufficient toughness. His potential cap may well be as a secondary player and specialist in team strategies. (GRADE: C) .
