Sony Sets 'Sisu' Sequel Release for Fall

"Sisu" has returned.
Sony Pictures' Screen Gems plans to release the sequel to "Sisu," which is produced by Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions and Stage 6 Films, in theaters on November 21, 2025. Get ready.
Jalmari Helander is set to come back for writing and directing duties, joined once again by Jorma Tommila in the leading role, along with new additions Richard Brake and Stephen Lang.
Although specifics about the follow-up’s storyline remain undisclosed, the initial movie took place in 1944 and revolved around Aatami Korpi (played by Tommila). He was a Finnish individual entangled with Nazis retreating and bent on causing maximum destruction. “Sisu” originates from Finland where it signifies an extraordinary level of tenacity and valor. Indeed, our protagonist demonstrates these qualities abundantly. The first film stands out as a thrilling historical adventure that truly needs to be witnessed firsthand.
Helander stands out as one of Europe’s most thrilling contemporary filmmakers, evident from his previous works like "Rare Exports" and "Big Game." These movies demonstrate not only superior technical skill but also an eagerness to mix different styles for compelling outcomes. It adds extra excitement that "Sisu"—a secondary endeavor conceived following the halt of another project due to the pandemic—is now receiving a follow-up installment.
The initial movie made its global debut at the Toronto International Film Festival within the Midnight Madness category in 2022. Following this, it was shown at the Sitges Film Festival, receiving accolades including Best Feature Film, Best Actor, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Music.
Petri Jokiranta produced the film through Subzero Film Entertainment, in association with Good Chaos and Mike Goodridge. Gregory Ouanhon and Antonio Salas are executive producers. The film is backed by the Finnish Film Foundation, Film Estonia, Business Finland - Audiovisual Production Incentive, Film Tampere, Viru Film Fund and BNP Paribas – COFILOISIRS – with the support of the IFCIC. Stage 6 Film's SVP of creative development and production, Eric Charles, oversaw the film for the studio, which holds global rights to the film.
