Shots Fired at Whitehaven Apartment Complex: Police Investigate

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Gunfire was reportedly heard at an apartment complex in Whitehaven late Thursday evening.

Police report that they were called to a shooting incident at the Creekside Meadow Apartments located on Briarpark Drive near Winchester Road shortly after 10 p.m.

At this time, it is unclear who fired the shots or if anyone was injured as a result of it.

One person killed, two others wounded following multiple nighttime shooting incidents.

In recent weeks, fatal shootings have prompted responses from both the police chief and the city mayor.

"It has been a challenging few weeks for our city; we've faced sorrow and brutality, and I am aware that everyone is feeling the impact of these heartbreaking events," stated Chief CJ Davis.

“We also want to acknowledge that the past two weeks have been pretty tough and we’ve seen some high-profile incidents,” said Mayor Paul Young.

Local officials voiced their support at the ribbon-cutting event for a newly opened command center in the city center on Thursday. This advanced facility aims to decrease as well as deter criminal activities within the area.

On Friday, Mayor Young along with Chief Davis intend to tackle the recent surge in gun violence and propose a comprehensive strategy for the whole community to combat it.
