Semi Truck Plows into Barrier on Illinois Route 53 Ramp, Spilling Plastic Tubes Everywhere

On Friday morning, a semi-trailer transporting plastic tubes overturned at an exit ramp for Illinois Route 53 located in the northern suburbs of Chicago.

The Illinois State Police reported that a semi-truck tipped over onto the northbound entrance to westbound LakeCookRoad in LakeZurich around 5:45 a.m. Footage taken at the location reveals numerous blue cylinders dispersed across the ramp and along the adjacent grass area beside the upturned vehicle. Initially, authorities stated that these cylindrical objects were metallic; however, they subsequently corrected this information, clarifying that they were actually composed of plastic material.

No injuries were reported.

The ISP mentioned that traffic could use the left shoulder as crews worked to remove the truck and the spilled goods from the area. The ramp was reopened just before 1 o'clock in the afternoon.

The reason behind the accident wasn't clear right away. CBS News Chicago has contacted law enforcement for additional details.
