Rockford Promise Class of 2025 Makes It Happen

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) — About 24 Rockford Promise scholars pledged their attendance at Rockford University on Wednesday.

The signing event took place between 5-7:30 p.m. at the Burpee Student Center’s Regents Hall. This marked the first signing ceremony under the new system. expanded partnership among Rockford Promise, Rockford University, and the city of Rockford.

Rockford Promise is an initiative enabling students from Rockford, who maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0, to pursue education at colleges or universities within the Stateline region tuition-free.

As stated by Susan Fumo, who serves as the vice president of the Rockford Promise Board of Directors, 35 students received scholarships to attend Rockford University, which sets a new record for the initiative.

Our community college graduation rates are significantly above the national average, nearly doubling it," Fumo stated. "Therefore, once we enroll students in our schools, we ensure they remain enrolled until they graduate.

Since 2016, Rockford Promise has provided 450 scholarships.
