Robots Serving Burgers: Inside the New Silicon Valley Restaurant Revolution

A Los Gatos restaurant, Burger Bots, is now officially open in the heart of Silicon Valley, and its owner says it is the future of food.

Elizabeth Truong says she has figured out a way to create a fast and consistent process to provide good meals, exactly how the customer wants it - with a robot as the sous chef.

By morning, this restaurant is known as Breaking Dawn, a brunch spot, and at night it's First Born, a dinner destination.

But now, it's also Burger Bot - a transformative tech take on burgers and fries.

"I think there's only one like this in the entire world," Truong stated.

In the heart of Silicon Valley, Truong mentions that this recent advancement is transforming how burgers are prepared.

This doesn't remove the human element entirely, but Truong states that it enhances workflows as the industry evolves.

“You head to the grocery store, and you witness how all our frozen foods are produced using robots,” Truong explained. “However, with this, you can observe everything firsthand. This will be your next assistant chef.”

Once the burger patty and ingredients have been prepped by human employees, two distinct ABB robots then step in to continue the process.

The Burger Bot constructs a burger and French fry combo precisely as the customer desires.

Three main parts make up this system," Truong explained. "Firstly, we have a vegetable slicer and distributor. This device slices vegetables such as onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles according to the customer’s specifications—whether they prefer more, less, or even none at all, with full visibility for the customer. Next comes the condiment dispenser, which allows customers to request additional sauces or skip them entirely right before their eyes. Finally, the robotic arm not only seals the container but also picks up the french fries, as demonstrated here.

The robot reaches the table in approximately one minute.

A customer seeks consistency, efficiency, and transparency when it comes to food, and that’s exactly what we aim for," Truong stated. "Our goal is to walk in expecting a great burger each and every time without fail.

Burger Bots is open in downtown Los Gatos from Tuesday through Sunday, operating from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and then again from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
