Pothole-Pocked Mira Mesa Road Finally Sees Long-Awaited Repairs

Following years of irritation and rough journeys, motorists in Mira Mesa are experiencing some respite. The much-ignored segment of Parkdale Avenue—known for its potholes and deteriorating surface—is currently undergoing repaving, which promises significant enhancements to what was once among the most rugged routes in San Diego.

Yes, it has taken an extremely long time. This path has been utterly terrible. , "echoed the feeling shared by many in the area," stated local resident Taraneh Hatefi.

Currently, crews are engaged in resurfacing Parkdale Avenue from Mira Mesa Boulevard all the way to Northrup Drive, changing what residents describe as having resembled more of a dirt path than an urban thoroughfare.

“It took quite a while. I sent numerous letters to the city multiple times. It’s great to see them finally taking action.” , mentioned Phil Torre, who resides closeby.

The resurfacing work was initially planned for February; however, unforeseen problems with utility lines pushed back the project. This resulted in motorists having to navigate through numerous deep ruts and potholes for several additional months.

"You constantly have to swerve around the potholes and ruts, making it a terrible experience. Occasionally, you find yourself driving on the opposite side of the road because it’s impossible to stay on your lane," Hatefi explained.

The resurfacing of Parkdale is part of a broader infrastructure project That also encompasses Gold Coast Drive, where teams are working on enhancing the storm drains. Although Parkdale is expected to be finished within the coming three weeks, Gold Coast continues to grapple with numerous potholes, slated for complete resurfacing by the end of the year.

Locals express relief at seeing advancement after many years of petitions and grievances.

We've been listening to all the talking, talking, talking. Action is good. , ” Torre added.

A representative from San Diego’s Transportation Department stated that they are tackling the project section by section to finish the improvements with maximum efficiency.

It’s going to be pleasant and clear and silky. , remarked local resident Danielle Clarke, her face lighting up as she saw the newly laid asphalt.
