Plane Crash in Tehama County: Tragedy Strikes, One Dead and One Injured

On Tuesday evening, a small aircraft crashed in Tehama County, leading to the pilot’s demise and severe injuries to another person onboard. The incident took place around 3:35 p.m. close to Phyllis Road in Cottonwood, as reported by the Tehama County Sheriff's Office.

The emergency response team, which included the Tehama County Sheriff's Department, Cal Fire, and healthcare providers, was sent to the accident location. According to the Tehama County Sheriff's Office statement, there were two individuals onboard the plane involved in this incident. One person successfully freed themselves from the debris field; they underwent initial medical care at the scene prior to being transported via helicopter to a nearby hospital. Officials mentioned that this person is currently receiving treatment for severe injuries.

The pilot gave in to the injuries he received from the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) along with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are anticipated to reach on Wednesday morning for conducting an inquiry into the event.

An NTSB representative stated that investigators reached the accident site on Wednesday to start their probe, conducting preliminary documentation prior to relocating the airplane to a protected location. According to the spokesperson, the craft involved was identified as a Champion 7ECA, which is characterized as a single-engine fixed-wing model.

The NTSB plans to concentrate their inquiry on several elements, including flight path information, meteorological circumstances, and surveillance video near the site of the occurrence. They anticipate releasing an initial assessment following thirty days. The NTSB urges individuals who saw the accident or possess relevant recordings to contact them via witness@ntsb.gov.
