Pistons Issue Critical Update on Jaden Ivey's Injury Status During Playoffs

The Detroit Pistons might witness the comeback of their young star guard, Jaden Ivey, further into the playoffs provided they progress past the initial stage.

The squad provided an important update regarding Ivey's rehabilitation, highlighting that he is advancing well. At present, his regimen encompasses a step-by-step resumption of basketball shooting and skills practice, coupled with ongoing reconditioning and strength workouts.

Pistons reporter Omari Sankofa II broke the news through X.

Ivey hasn't competed since January 1 because of a fractured left fibula that has kept him out of action.

His status will be revised once more in about two weeks. Meanwhile, Ivey won’t progress to full five-on-five play until after the initial phase of the playoffs concludes. Currently, the Pistons find themselves trailing 2-1 in their opening playoff matchup with the New York Knicks.

At the beginning of the month, the Pistons announced that Ivey was approved to participate in basketball activities again. The 23-year-old player sustained a severe injury during a game against the Orlando Magic earlier in January.

After colliding with Magic guard Cole Anthony during a pursuit for a loose ball, Ivey sustained a broken left fibula. Soon afterward, it was reported that he would require surgical intervention and was anticipated to be sidelined for the rest of the season.

Before the injury, in 2022, NBA The lottery candidate was building a remarkable season. Over 30 games, Ivey clocked in averages of 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.0 assists across 29.9 minutes per contest. Notably, his most significant improvement showed up in his efficiency; he achieved personal bests with a field-goal percentage of 46.0% and a three-point accuracy rate at 40.9%.

The Pistons desperately need Ivey for their playoff push this season. Even though they have substantial depth among their guards, Ivey’s speed, agility, and talent might just be what they require to surpass the Knicks.

Meanwhile, Detroit is putting up a strong fight against the Knicks. As underdogs, the Pistons entered this series and continue to be seen as such after three games. The fourth game of the series is scheduled for Sunday, offering Detroit another chance to level the playing field.
