Northwest Nazarene University Triumphs in Teacher Prep Program Rankings

Northwest Nazarene University (NNU) has received an A+ rating from the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) for its teacher preparation program focused on elementary mathematics. This achievement marks NNU as the sole university in Idaho to earn such high honors.

The nationwide acknowledgment highlights the effectiveness of NNU’s teacher training program in providing aspiring teachers with crucial knowledge and skills needed for successful elementary mathematics education. This evaluation takes into account an extensive examination of course materials such as syllabi and assessments to confirm their compliance with leading standards in math teaching methodologies.

"We are incredibly proud to be recognized for our strong foundation in elementary math education," said Dr. Lori Sanchez, Dean of the College of Education. "This recognition reflects the deep commitment of our Education Department faculty—especially Professor Michelle Rowley, who led this effort—and the high standards we hold for preparing outstanding teachers in Idaho and beyond."

The National Council on Teacher Quality is a nonpartisan think tank focused on guaranteeing that all students have capable instructors. The council’s Teacher Prep Review assesses the effectiveness of various institutions in equipping aspiring teachers with essential knowledge across critical subjects. Being acknowledged by NCTQ signifies NNU’s ongoing commitment to high standards in educator training and its contribution to the development of Idaho’s educational landscape.
