Following the announcement, the room burst into cheers and a standing ovation. The crowd was filled with her family and friends who had come specifically to hear this news.

The voting resulted in a ratio of six-to-one, with Trustee Susan Wittrup being the only dissenting voice. She plans to hold a press briefing on Thursday morning to elaborate on her stance regarding this matter. Earlier, Wittrup expressed her belief that hiring someone from outside the district would be essential to bring about the necessary reforms.

The concluding phase will involve the board negotiating an agreement with her, anticipated to be approved and finalized during their subsequent meeting on April 30th.

She has served as the interim superintendent since Bob Nelson departed for a position at Fresno State back in May.

However, the procedure for choosing the new superintendent has come under examination, as the district is accused of lacking complete transparency in the selection process and failing to genuinely consider external applicants.

This situation has sparked significant public disagreements among board members, leading the district to bring in an external company to assist with the search process.

She becomes the first Asian American and first woman to head the third-largest school district in the state.

Here is also the most senior Hmong American in K-12 education nationwide.

During an interview with Action News when she started her role as interim superintendent, she stated that her main focuses for the district included improving student academic achievements, offering support to ensure the district’s success, fostering trust and involvement among FUSD and the local community, along with maintaining financial stability and accountability.
