Missing convicted murderer caught on Edinburgh bus

A convict who had murdered someone and escaped from an open prison in Dundee was located in Edinburgh.

Raymond McCourt was apprehended by undercover officers following his removal from a Lothian Bus in the city’s London Road district on Friday morning.

Earlier this week, McCourt was spotted on Duke Street in Glasgow after being reported as missing from HMP Castle Huntly. This sighting occurred on Tuesday.

The individual, aged 59, was sentenced to prison in 1993 following the killing of shopkeeper Khalid Mahmood in Cambuslang, Lanarkshire.

A witness informed The News Pulse Scotland that McCourt was "encircled" by six police officers when they requested him to disembark from bus number five near the intersection of Leith Walk.

He reportedly got on the bus in the Abbeyhill district just moments before.

Witnesses observed him getting searched by plainclothes and uniformed officers prior to the bus continuing its journey.

Police Scotland had warned the public not to approach McCourt .

The alert was triggered on Tuesday evening when he failed to return to jail after being granted temporary leave.

McCourt was imprisoned when he shot Khalid Mahmood at the age of 27.

He obtained release under license in 2015, but later found himself back behind bars for pilfering items from his partner in Alyth, Perthshire.

Before being located by law enforcement, he utilized the funds to finance a trip to Blackpool.

McCourt informed the authorities that he was finding it difficult to adjust to life after being released from prison and had taken the items as a last indulgence before going back behind bars.

He received an additional 10-month sentence for that offense and was sent back to prison to serve his life term for murder.
